The development of Al Fay Street stretches from its intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, through Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, to Emirates Road. The project will include the construction of five key intersections, 13,500 meters of bridges, and 12,900 meters of roads, designed to improve connectivity and increase road capacity. Upon completion, the road will be capable of handling 64,400 vehicles per hour.
A critical strategic corridor
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA’s Executive Board, emphasized the strategic importance of the project. “The Al Fay Street Development Project is a vital infrastructure initiative that will establish a new east-west corridor in Dubai’s road network. It will enhance connectivity between major roads, particularly from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road, and ease traffic flow across key residential and commercial zones,” Al Tayer stated.
The road will serve numerous residential and developmental areas, including Dubai Sports City, Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai Production City, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Tilal Al Ghaf, DAMAC Lagoons, The Oasis, and Remraam. The project will provide a direct route from Al Khail Road to Emirates Road and ensure efficient movement between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road, improving overall mobility and traffic capacity.
Different phases
The Al Fay Street Development Project will be executed in two phases. The first intersection to be upgraded is at the junction of Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, where a 1,255-meter bridge will be built to accommodate left-turn traffic towards Al Fay Street and Emirates Road. This bridge will feature two lanes and handle 3,200 vehicles per hour. Additionally, the project will expand service roads to increase capacity and improve traffic flow.
The second intersection, located between Dubai Sports City and Dubai Production City, will see the construction of a 960-meter bridge with four lanes in each direction, capable of handling 14,400 vehicles per hour. The existing roundabout will be converted into a signal-controlled intersection to better accommodate traffic volumes from these two districts. A 780-meter service road with two lanes will also be built to support traffic movement from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road.
The third intersection, at Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, will feature two bridges: one with three lanes in each direction spanning 1,400 meters, and another five-lane bridge, also spanning 1,400 meters. These bridges will accommodate a combined capacity of 18,600 vehicles per hour. Service roads will also be developed to facilitate left-turn movements, with a capacity of 9,600 vehicles per hour.
The fourth intersection, where Al Fay Street meets Emirates Road, will feature a two-lane bridge spanning 1,000 meters to handle left-turn traffic from Al Fay Street to Emirates Road. Another similar two-lane bridge will also be constructed to facilitate left-turn traffic in the opposite direction, enhancing traffic flow between the two roads.
At the fifth intersection, two two-lane bridges will be built to provide direct access from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Dubai Production City. Spanning a total of 2,250 meters, these bridges will handle a combined traffic capacity of 6,400 vehicles per hour, ensuring smooth connectivity between the two major roads.
Sustainable infrastructure
The Al Fay Street Development Project is another major step in Dubai’s continued commitment to advancing its infrastructure, ensuring that the city remains a global leader in sustainable urban development and transportation. The project is designed to provide a seamless and efficient transportation experience for residents, visitors, and businesses alike, supporting the ongoing growth and development of the emirate
